Mafalala is one of the cultural and political; cradles of Mozambique. You will be fetched from your hotel and taken to restaurant for a dinner. Mafalala is the birthplace for Marrabenta (Most popular Mozambican music genre). This tour gives the opportunity to experience the vibrant night life of this community, taste local cuisine, visit the “barracas” and hear the magic sounds of the local bands that retain the rhythms of the past. These local bands are inspired by the pioneering groups of the ‘40’s and ‘50’s that lived within and shaped the Mozambican cultural scene through their music.

See the best of Maputo’s Art Scene. Painting, sculpture and photography are thriving in the city. Artists including Victor Sousa, Mucavele and Goncales Mabunda are accessible and welcoming. Malangatana’s art is found on many public building across the city. Visit a selection of the city’s best current exhibitions, galleries and meet an artist in his/her studio (no pressure to purchase). Lunching in an ‘arty’ space available as an optional extra. Out of town art tours, e.g. Chissano museum, including lunch can be arranged.

See his amazing and playful building from the 1940’s to mid-70. Our expert will explain how Gaudi and Frank Lloyd Wright influenced Guedes and how he and other Team 10 members broke away from the followers of the “International Style”. Visit where Pancho lived worked and encouraged the young Malangatana and other Mozambican artists. You will also see some of Pancho’s unique murals and ‘organic’ buildings such as the Dragon and Smiling Lion. “I claim for architects the rights and liberties that painters and poets have held for so long” – Pancho Guedes.

Depart from your hotel at 05:15 then cross by ferry to Catembe and continue via the Hindu temple at Salamanga to the Maputo Elephant Reserve and 4×4 terrains. There is prolific birdlife and hopefully you will see elephants, crocodiles, hippos, reed buck and Samango monkeys en route to Lago Xingute. Lunch will be served overlooking the lake, hopefully in the company of a pool of Hippopotamus. Transport is in 4×4 vehicles with driver/guide. Includes packed breakfast, lunch, drinks, park entry fees and snacks.

Macaneta peninsula is located 30kms north of Maputo. We reach it by the En1 highway or on the back road passing Costa do sol. The journey is in a 484 and you cross the Incomati River by local ferry. After arriving at Macaneta you will have the morning to swim in the warm Indian Ocean. A seafood lunch will be served at a local restaurant after which you can dip your toes once again in the sea before the return to Maputo. There is the option of booking this trip with a boat cruise up in the Nkomati River.

Departing from Maputo waterfront we board our boat for Xefina Island, a small piece of paradise in the Maputo bay. Lunch on the beach is supplied and activities offered included a walk to the ruins, bocce (petanque), swimming and beach games. This is weather dependent and requires min 4 client.

Visits include the Manzini Market, Mantenga Craft Centre and Guava Gallery to view Swazi jewellery and arts. Then on the Mantenga Cultural Village where you will appreciate the history and cutler of the legendary Swazi nation. To the beat of echoing cowhide drums, traditional Swazi dancing is performed by a talented group of dancers in a nearby boma. Visits arts and craft attractions at Malandela’s homestead before making the return journey home via Swazi Candle factory where client can view the decorative art of candle mankind. Lunch is either at Mandela’s or at the Candle factory.

The park is only 100kms from Maputo and your driver will assist you with border formalities. Once you have crossed into South Africa, your guard will take you into the world’s famous Kruger Park, home to Africa’s Big Five. As you slowly drive to the park you will have a chance to sight elephant, buffalo, giraffe, impala, zebra, and for those lucky enough, lion or rhino. Lunch will be taken at one of the parks camps and you will continue to look for games on the return journey from Kruger. Some nationalities will need to buy a re-entry visa for Mozambique. There is the option of booking this trip with an open safari vehicle, conservation fees and all meals.

Just across the Lebombo Mountains from Maputo is Hlane Royal National Park. Here you will have a chance track and view White Rhino from an open backed safari vehicle. Included is a birding/game walk, an experience not to be missed. Walk can be substituted with mountain bike ride through the park.
